For teachers

Matematik i Måneby runs in the browser with no login and no installation. Here is what is good to know before a class starts.

School years

The game covers 1st to 6th grade. There is no level for the Danish reception year (børnehaveklasse). To try it with younger pupils, choose 1st grade and only addition and subtraction.

Setup

Under Setup on the title screen you choose the grade and the topics. The browser remembers the choice, also when the page is reloaded, so the pupils can go straight to New game. A saved game keeps its own setup, so Load game gives the pupil the same grade and topics again.

A link with the grade, for example maaneby.dk/en/spil/?klassetrin=3 (1 to 6), starts the game in that grade with its topics.

Saving the game

Shared computers and Chromebook carts

On shared school computers, Chromebook carts and machines that clear browser data at sign-out, the saved game is gone by the next lesson. So press Download a copy in the message that appears after Save, and put the file in the pupil's own folder, for example Google Drive or OneDrive. In Chrome and Edge you can also choose Save to a file on this computer in the save window and save straight to Drive.

Next time: Load game, then Open a file from this computer, and choose the file.

Chromebooks and a black screen

The game works on Chromebooks. If the screen goes black, or the game shows an error screen, the cause is almost always a setting made by the school's IT, for example a policy that switches WebAssembly off, or a web filter. The error screen has a line starting with For IT. Send that line to your IT staff together with the link to the guide for IT staff.

The domain maaneby.dk is new, and some web filters block new domains. If the site is blocked on the school network, ask IT to allow maaneby.dk. In the meantime the game can also be played at maaneby.pages.dev.

Printing results

Press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac) on the town map. This prints the map with the pupil's name, points and results. The print window can also save it as a PDF.

Tablets

The game was made for mouse and keyboard. On a tablet with no keyboard the Esc menu cannot be opened, so the pupil can neither save nor quit. Use a computer, or connect a keyboard to the tablet.

Before the lesson

Start the game a few minutes before the lesson. Each pupil downloads about 37 MB up to the first task, so 25 machines at once put a load on the school's network.

Embedding in Meebook, Google Sites or Classroom

The link maaneby.dk/en/spil/ can be shared as it is, in Google Classroom too. To show the game inside a page in Meebook, Google Sites or another learning platform, paste:

<iframe src="https://maaneby.dk/en/spil/" allow="fullscreen; autoplay" width="1024" height="768" style="border:0"></iframe>

Games saved inside an embedded page are kept separately. They cannot be loaded on maaneby.dk, and the other way round. Use Download a copy to move a game.

Privacy

The game processes no pupil data, and there are no cookies. Read more under Privacy.
